Akaroa is a small village located about 75 km from Christchurch. The ship anchored in the harbor and tendered folks in for the day. We chose to do another train ride today, the Tranz Alpine Tour. The ‘Southern Alps’ are located on the South Island of New Zealand, and this train takes you on a trip through them and up to Arthur’s Pass.

After the train ride, we took a bus back to the ship. Along the way, the driver stopped at a few scenic overlooks. One in particular was Cave Stream Scenic Reserve. You were able to see mountains in all directions and a river below. It was pretty dry, but there was also some nice flowers and plants in this area.
